The body of work Lost and Found:
Images and Objects is about loss: loss of a time in history;
loss of a way of life; loss of loved ones; loss of an agrarian
society; loss of elegance and civility. It is also about what
is found. Found images in mysterious Bonaventure Cemetery, found
images along the highways and byways, and found images in the
ever present landscape.
I have "found" the
spirits of those gone before. Tintypes and aging photographs,
some of family members found in musty, forgotten drawers, and
some found at kinetic yard sales and cluttered antique stores.
These faces speak to me of their trials and triumphs. Of living
in a time so different from ours, yet so similar in fundamental
desires: the desire to love and be loved, to succeed, to survive.
